Along with the five basic elements; wood, water, fire, metal, and earth Feng Shui is related to Chinese astrology in that it deals with calendar cycles and energy directions. Chinese elements do not refer exclusively to matter but rather to subtle basic forms of changing energy. Destruction and production are in cycles. Any element will always be changing and it never ends. The colors green and brown relates to wood. Colors such as red, orange, purple and strong yellows fit with Fire. Light yellow ,tan and light brown– Earth. Metal goes with gray and white. Water goes with blue and black. The placement of elemental colors in your home is determined by your ‘bagua’ or energy map. Health and family well-being may be encouraged by using green in the eastern part of the home. Blue is used as a sign to strengthen and support career plans in the northern region. In the West, pure white sustains innovative activities. Yellow in the south is used for happy gatherings and sociability. Feng shui is incredibly complex, but as you learn the associations, directions, and elements you will find that color can become a source of peace and balance in your everyday environment.
